Knit this scarf inspired by the "twist of crimson silk" that Grace Ansley is knitting in Edith Wharton's short story "Roman Fever." Use a staggering stitch sequence in every other row to create a visually intriguing diagonal motif. Enjoy the ends of the scarf that are designed to evoke the arches of the Colosseum. Yarn: Handmaiden Sea Silk, 70% silk/30% Seacell yarn, fingering weight, 437 yards (399.6 m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 2 skeins of Berry; size 3 (3.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Needles: Cable needle; Tapestry needle.
