These plaid napkins brighten up any table. The cotton-linen blend in the warp and weft brings a lot of texture to the fabric, and a simple pick-up pattern adds floats for an even more interesting feel and weaving experience.
These napkins resulted from Elisabeth’s desire to weave with some new colors of Gist Yarn’s Duet that just vibrated with happy energy and from an equally strong desire to weave outside while the New England weather was on its best behavior. Duet is composed of two slubby plies of cotton bound with a tow linen singles, so it alone creates a lot of textural interest. As a consequence, Elisabeth didn’t need a lot of patterning to make napkins she liked. She did want to keep herself entertained while weaving, though, which led her to create a very simple pattern by using four ends as one in a warp float “ribbon” that would engage her while weaving.
